Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens better known by her stage name Queen Latifah is an American performer and actress. Queen Latifah's work in television and music has been recognized with the Golden Globe award two Screen Actors Guild Awards two Image Awards a Grammy Award and six more Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah is the daughter of the Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and a Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior was raised and born within Newark New Jersey. Latifah's parents divorced at the age of Latifah, then ten years aged, was 10 years old. Latifah was a student at the Catholic school in Newark, the state of New Jersey. She was also raised by her family's Baptist Church. Latifah is an Arabic term that translates to "delicate and gentle". Her aunt bestowed it on her at the age of eight. Latifah's 5'10" height was enough to make her a formidable athlete at high school. The number she sang was Home from the show The Wiz in a high school play. Latifah started to beatbox for the group known as Ladies Fresh. Latifah was one of the members of the original model of the Flavor Unit which at that time was a crew composed of MCs and producers led by DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King created a demo of the hip-hop Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. He gave the recording to the host of Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross, an employee of Tommy Boy Music who heard the song and made a deal with Latifah in 1988, to drop her debut single Wrath of My Madness.
